What changes: Parental leave will be extended from 3 to 4 months. This is a transposition of European Directive 2010/18/EU. For children born after 08/03/2012, an allowance from the RVA will be provided for this fourth month.

BE: Equalization of child benefits for employees and self-employed from 01/07/2014

What changes: Child benefits for the self-employed will be equalized with those for employees. From July 1, 2014, a first child of a self-employed person will receive the same amount as a first child of an employee. Additionally, from that date, the only or youngest child of a self-employed person will also be entitled to an age-related allowance.

BE: Increase in income thresholds for social allowances and single-parent allowance from 01/07/2014

What changes: From July 1, 2014, the income thresholds to be eligible for a single-parent allowance or a social allowance on child benefits will be increased. This applies to families experiencing long-term unemployment, illness, disability, retirement, or bankruptcy.
