NZQCF

New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework

The NZQCF is New Zealand's framework of qualifications and credentials. All secondary and tertiary qualifications and credentials approved by NZQA or Universities New Zealand are listed on it.

It has 10 levels, each describing what a graduate is expected to know, understand and be able to do — from certificates at levels 1 to 4 up to doctoral degrees at level 10. It helps people and organisations understand the level of skill and knowledge a qualification represents, and makes qualifications easier to compare between countries.

It was the NZQF (New Zealand Qualifications Framework), established in 2010; in 2022 micro-credentials were included and the name changed to NZQCF. Older documents and rules may still say NZQF.

NZQA maintains the framework and sets the quality rules for the qualifications on it; university qualifications are approved by the Committee on University Academic Programmes at Universities New Zealand.

Who it concerns

Students, graduates and people moving to New Zealand whose qualification is compared against a framework level — for study, for work, or for requirements that name a level.
