ANZSCO

Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations

ANZSCO is the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations. Immigration New Zealand uses it to check the skill levels of jobs, and the qualifications and experience needed to work in them.

Occupations are identified by codes and assigned skill levels, and Immigration New Zealand offers a tool to find a job’s ANZSCO skill level. What a skill level means for a given visa is set by the immigration rules in force.

ANZSCO was established in 2006 and has been revised several times. Its 2022 update, made by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, covered the Australian labour market only, and Australia has since published its own classification, OSCA (2024).

Which classification an application is assessed against is set by the rules in force when it is made: Immigration New Zealand’s pages prevail.

Who it concerns

People applying for work or residence visas in New Zealand, and the employers hiring them, whose job is assessed against an ANZSCO occupation and skill level.
